The situation in the district worsened on Friday with the flames reaching the high court colony in the Pines area.
The police believe a truck loaded with rubber material parked near the godown caught fire, which spread in no time because of strong winds on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, in an operation called Bambi Bucket, the Indian Air Force flew a total of 64 shuttles, pouring over 1,95,500 litres of water to douse the raging forest fires, a defence spokesperson said.
Efforts have also intensified to extinguish the raging forest fires in the state, especially in the worst-affected areas of Nainital, Haldwani and Ramnagar forest divisions, forest officials here said on Sunday.
Four IAF helicopters were pressed into service to extinguish a massive and widespread forest fire that started in the pristine forest areas 30 km east of Visakhapatnam.
Terming it a "very sorry state of affairs", the apex court said the state was just trying to find some excuse or the other.
According to the IAF official, 41 aircraft would participate in the flight display on the inaugural day while there would be 63 aircraft on static display.
